The 1955 Chevrolet Bel Air was the first model in the second generation of Chevrolet's Bel Air model. The second generation was completely restyled and benefited from a range of recent technological advances including: a V8 engine option and the option of the 2 speed powerglide automatic, or a standard three speed Synchro-Mesh manual transmission with optional overdrive. This model led the way in the luxury that would become synonymous with the Chevrolet brand.
Our car is the 4-door post varient, of which less than 350,000 were made - costing over $2000 in 1955. That might not sound like much, but the average house price in the US in 1955 was $9,100 and the average wage - $4,137!
Below are few period ads and pages of the original Chevrolet brochure!
Our Bel Air was registered new in Anaheim, Calfornia in 1955. It stayed in the US for over 30 years before being imported into the UK in May of 1988.
Being on the road for over 60 years takes it toll, but it has been faithfully restored to its original 1950s flair.
Our car was awarded a top 10 trophy in the July American Automobile Club International Show.
